Chamber Launches "Schroon Lake Cares" Fundraiser to Help Local Businesses

With no Fourth of July Celebration and so many other cancellations and closures, the Chamber is well aware that member businesses’ ability to make their regular summer income is going to be extremely challenging this year, especially for those dependent on tourism.  In an attempt to help, the Chamber has launched a fundraising campaign – “Schroon Lake Cares” – led by Board members Darren Woods, David Peterson, and Matt Curren.  Using social media to reach many thousands of people, Schroon Lake Cares is asking those who live in, visit, and love the Schroon Lake area to think about how much they would spend on restaurants, lodging and shopping during the summer season, and then make a gift to directly support local businesses.

"When we as a Chamber board made the agonizing decision to cancel Fourth of July activities, we really wanted to show our members that we are there for them. The idea to have a fundraiser for businesses that would be most affected by tourism was immediately adopted,” said Darren Woods.  “I guess since I am the theater guy, I was asked to chair the effort.  I have lots of great volunteers, particularly film maker Brian Hosan who put together a video campaign very quickly.  I hope we are able to provide some relief of the income that our restaurants, inns and retail stores will miss over the July 4th week.”
