The mining community of Tahawus was built in 1941 and dismantled in 1963, with many of the town buildings moved to Newcomb. This new museum celebrates the extraordinary history of this company town who lived on as a thriving community.

Teddy's Trail

This 80 mile loop has wonderful scenery on wide-shouldered roads. Runs along the Hudson River with many mountain and cliff scenes. Abundant scenic rest stops with picnic tables.

North Hudson XC Skiing

Located near the brand-new Frontier Town camping and day-use area, North Hudson's cross-country ski trails travel south through the gorgeous, snowy woods of the Hammond Pond Wild Forest.

Courtney and Shingletree Ponds

Courtney and Shingletree ponds are two small bodies of water in the Hammond Pond Wild Forest. You won't miss Courtney Pond; it sits right on the edge of the road. It is very scenic with lily pads and abundant wildlife. 

Getting there

The trailhead is located on Route 9, 0.2 miles south of the Sharp Bridge Campground. Courtney Pond is located right beside the road, so it is not easily missed. Park at a small roadside lot next to Courtney Pond.

East Mill Flow

This car to car traverse between the Sharp Bridge Campground and Ensign Pond Road trailheads of the East Mill Flow trail has gentle changes in elevation, many footbridges, and wonderful views of Schroon Brook alongside most of the trail. Midway it crosses East Mill Brook, has views of Round Pond, and is all within the Hammond Pond Wild Forest.

This system of interlocked trails explores the lovely area that used to be Frontiertown, a pioneering theme park that closed in 1998. A short road begins and ends off of Route 9.

The entire system is almost 9 miles in total, with a lot of mostly level forest trails of varying width. It's great for kids!
